Welcome to the Reconstructive Breast Surgery Information Web Site.
Breast reconstruction is a field of plastic surgery in which the goal
of surgery is to provide the patient with two balanced and symmetrical
breasts. Typically, breast reconstruction is performed following a mastectomy
(i.e. the breast has been removed because of breast cancer), but occasionally
techniques of breast reconstruction are used to treat women who have an
abnormal development of one or both breasts.
The goal of this site is to provide understandable, up-to-date information
about current surgical reconstructive options and their non-surgical alternatives.
Each section will attempt to discuss the various alternatives under the
following headings:
· How is the procedure performed?
· Scars
· Advantages/Disadvantages
· Indications/Contraindications
· Possible Risks/Complications
· Recovery Time
